History
During the industrial revolution many new parishes were created to meet the spiritual and social needs of the growing population. Castle Hall Parish was created in 1846. The Rev Thomas Floyd was appointed in 1847.
The church met in Mrs Simpson’s house on Back Grovesnor Street and as it grew they hired rooms in the Forester’s Hall for services and Sunday School.
Easter Day 1851 saw the laying of the foundation stone for the church building on Trinity Street. It was completed a year later and the bells were installed in 1853.
During the cotton famine of 1861-1865 when many cotton workers were unemployed Holy Trinity raised money for those who were out of work, ran soup kitchens and used their Sunday School premises to run education classes for the whole parish.
The Sunday School was opened as a Day School for the parish in 1864 with one class of 29 pupils but it grew rapidly with the church taking a keen interest in the welfare of the children in the parish.
